How to cancel, step by step
- Log in to the hosting control panel
- Disable auto-renew for domains and hosting
- Back up your files, database, and emails
- Cancel before the renewal billing date
- Transfer the domain out if keeping it
Checklist
- Disable auto-renew if you don’t need it.
- Confirm renewal date and price.
- Ensure you have access to the registrar account and 2FA recovery.
Watch out for
- Domains can become expensive to recover after expiry.
- Some registrars renew by default even if you ‘cancel’.
When to start
Start about 30 days before the renewal date—earlier if there is a notice period, so you still have time to decide, compare and send your notice.
